Surrounding myself with people that make me laugh has always been a top priority of mine. I have been blessed my entire life with friends and family that crack me up. Now that I’m a father of four kids, that all have their own unique sense of humor, that trend has continued. I don’t think there’s been a day in the last twenty years that has gone by without one of my children bringing a smiling to my face. The following story is a perfect example of what I’m talking about.

One night my youngest and I were in our den watching a television show called ‘Impractical Jokers’. It’s one of our favorite shows and it never fails to deliver plenty of smiles and big laughs. If you haven’t seen it I recommend that you check it out. Anyway during one of the commercial breaks a trailer for the movie ‘Magic Mike’ came on. For those of you that aren’t familiar, ‘Magic Mike’ stars Channing Tatum who plays a male stripper. The commercial showed him and his fellow dancers with their shirts off prancing around up on stage.

Immediately my 10 year old daughter blurts out; ‘Magic Mike! You know Mommy saw that movie, right Daddy? “Oh yeah, I heard all about it,” was my sarcastic response. She followed up by saying; “Yep Mommy loved it,” which made me smile but it was what came out of her mouth next that not only caught me off guard but really cracked me up. “Do you feel threatened?” she quipped.  “Do I feel threatened, I repeated. Why would I feel threatened by Magic Mike? I have a six pack and can shake my hips just like he can”. She turned and looked at me sideways and had the audacity to say, “Not really!” Man what a low blow by my own flesh and blood. Well as the saying goes; from the mouths of babes.

There’s no doubt she was right, my hip shaking abilities are in a different stratosphere from Magic Mike’s. The best thing about the entire experience was the look on her face when she said, “Not really.” It was priceless. I know the memory of it will be bringing a smile to my face for years to come.
